Around the photo Web – part 6
For todays link wrap-up, I have a collection of articles with some strong opinions about digital photography, image altering and Photoshop. It is rather interesting to see how some people do not allow anything to be done to the image, while for others, the digital provides endless opportunities to create something even better than just pure reflection of reality.
Where I stand, depends on an image and sometimes even if I shot it or somebody else. I do mostly adjustments, often clone out unnecessary elements or create HDRs. I do not share the opinion that contest images have to be unaltered, but prefer the photo journalist to tell stories as they were, not staged.
- How photographing it changes the reality- article by Alex Hare for The Independent
- Why landscape images need to be presented as they come from the camera – opinion post by Declan O’Neill for Digital Photography School
- Two part article on altering contest images at PetaPixel blog- analysis of some recent winners and some ethical considerations
UPDATE – April 22, 2013 – another article was published on LightStalking, authored by Jason D. Little, regarding how much use of Photoshop is still OK. While the article poses more questions than it answers, I feel the author has quite a strong and in a sense orthodox opinion.
How about you? Do any of the articles agrees with your opinion? Was there any particularly upsetting to you? Share your thoughts in the comments.
