Saturday cleaning
It was THAT day for me today. I started taking photos and putting them on my 60Gb hard drive and import them to Lightroom early February. The space on the driveĀ was coming to an end recently, and I was considering my options. Few small cleanings did the job, temporary, with some photos from trips archived on CDs deleted. This time, the real solution was needed. But… It looked like I have no good option to move my photos and Lightroom adjustments onto the external hard drive. There was no visible option anywhere in the software. Luckily, the IT specialist is available at home. It turns out, that moving the entire catalog (I was sane enough to put ALL my phots in just one folder) on the external drive did the trick. Confused Lightroom asked-“so where the pictures are?” after which it received the right track, and no mess happened. Of course, I was not smart enough to put Lightroom adjustements and backup folders in same folder, so one more step was needed, this one more intuitive. The Lightroom folder was moved onto external drive, and new Catalog was opened within the software. Now I have everything on external drive, with additional copy on many CDs and DVDs, and my hard drive space occupied in 55%. Not only should the additional space on externeal hard drive be enough for a while, the next space crisis can be simply resolved by buying next, larger hard drive and copying the contents there.
