Worldwide Photowalk 2015 – Kalona, IA
Just a few days ago, Scott Kelby announced 2015 Worldwide Photowalk date – October 3rd.If you have never participated in this social event bringing together photographers to take some pictures, talk shop and just have great fun, regardless of their gear and skills, you certainly should give it a try! Watch the Worldwide Photowalk Intro to learn more what it is all about.
This year, I will be leading the photowalk in Iowa City-Cedar Rapids metro area in small town of Kalona, IA. Less than 20 miles Southwest of downtown Iowa City, Kalona’s renovated quiet downtown is full of antique stores and restaurants. It is just a pleasant place for a leisurely stroll. We also got the permission to enter some of the antique stores and photograph their items. If you need some inspiration of how to make everyday objects look interesting, look at some of the work of Minneapolis’ photographer Valerie Jardin and her ongoing project “Ordinary Objects are Beautiful“.
Kalona is also a place that several religious groups choose to settle centuries ago. On the farms surrounding town, there are Amish and Mennonites. Their presence leaves the mark on the town – like hardware store with horse parking! Look around on your way into Kalona, to spot farms with no electricity, tractors with metal wheels and traditionally dressed folks. Just be mindful and respect their privacy – for some general rules see the Amish Country etiquette.
If this sounds exciting, join us for the Kalona photowalk on October 3rd, 2015 at 1:30 pm. Just sign up on KelbyOne web site now.
